Job Description

A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Daoyun Ji at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, TX. The laboratory conducts high-quality research on mechanisms learning and memory: how memory representations are formed, recalled and consolidated, which aspects of memory processing are impaired in neurodegenerative diseases and how they can be rescued at the neural circuit level. The work will be done in collaboration with the computational neuroscience lab of Dr. Yuri Dabaghian the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Houston, McGovern Medical School (UTHealth), and the fellow will have the opportunity for substantial interactions with the Dabaghian lab.

We are looking for scientists who share our research interests and who are motivated by exciting science and eager to learn new skills. The project focuses on studying the dynamics of spatial learning in topologically distinct environments, detailing neural circuit mechanisms of spatial information processing.

Successful candidates will design and perform in vivo electrophysiological experiments, record a large number of single neurons and large volumes of local field oscillations in wake states (rats performing behavioral tasks) and in sleep, in combination with optogenetic, pharmacological and computational approaches. The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, with an academic record of scientific excellence and a keen interest in interdisciplinary approaches to biological and neural systems. Prior experience in electrophysiology, animal behavior and data analyses is desired. Candidates with background in neuroscience, physical sciences, mathematics, and/or engineering are encouraged to apply.
