Job Summary
The Pediatric Rehabilitation Center is seeking a Medical Assistant Intermediate to join our team. Work with an outpatient pediatric clinic in which you would work in a fun, fast paced environment managing patient flow while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities*
This position provides leadership and functional supervision to the medical assistant in the clinic in partnership with the Administrative Manager. Serves as the clinical lead in making clinical decisions and changes with supervisor’s guidance, when necessary. Provides training and interpretation of policies and procedures in the clinic. Handles all daily clinical issues, physician/clinical complaints in appropriate manner; escalates issues to supervisor when needed. Creates clinic schedule and is responsible for adequate daily clinic/procedure unit coverage to ensure optimal clinic flow and utilization. Ensures efficient patient flow; provides clinical assistance in taking/recording vitals, and updating medications and allergies; assists and supports physicians with patients; maintains, orders and stocks supplies in exam rooms and clinic. Responsible for ensuring we are meeting infection control and joint commission compliance standards. Completes medication prior authorizations for patients at this clinic and other clinics in which our providers treat patients. Responsible for in basket management for patient issues for this clinic and all other clinics our physicians treat in through Michigan Medicine. Assists in relaying information to patients; responds to patient inquiries regarding care; coordinates prescription and order requests for patients; completion of patient forms; and correspondence and requests as necessary.

Required Qualifications*
At the Medical Assistant Associate level:

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education and 1-3 years of experience.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
Communicates effectively.
Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
Competence in computer usage, telephone etiquette, participate in team and staff meetings, and follow clinic guidelines and protocols.
Must have history of excellent attendance and punctuality.
Demonstrated abilities to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
Medical Assistant:

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
Communicates effectively.
Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

0-1 year of relevant experience.
Desired Qualifications*
Experience within an ambulatory setting
Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record system
Knowledge of University policies and procedures
Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
Experience working with pediatric patients
