In this role you will:

  • Conduct fundamental research in electrochemical energy storage in a team environment.
  • Contribute to the understanding of electrochemical interfaces in batteries and their characterization using electrochemistry, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy.
  • Perform basic electrochemical operations, including cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical rotating disk electrode and ring-disk measurements, and their analysis.
  • Use this knowledge to develop new theories of electrode passivation and electrode kinetic phenomena.
  • Examine the interactions of these materials under cell/battery environments and operando conditions.
  • Design, develop, and implement experimental plans for utilizing and fabricating electrochemical cells for evaluation of electrochemical processes.
  • Determine current-voltage relationships and apply knowledge to improve electrode kinetics of operation.
  • Apply experimental plans and perform hands-on experiments for conducting microscopic, chemical, and structural analysis of passivation coatings on lithium battery anodes, including electron spectroscopies, vibrational and Raman spectroscopies, electron and atomic-force microscopies and X-ray methods.
  • Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements.
