Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:
HSX is a nuclear fusion research device located in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. HSX is a modular coil stellarator optimized using quasihelical symmetry and is presently the only device of this type in the world. Plasma physics research goals include investigation of transport, turbulence, and confinement. These goals require a complex and varied array of customized subsystems and diagnostics to accomplish its mission. The laboratory is seeking an Instrumentation Technologist to design, adapt and modify these varied and unique one-of-a-kind systems in support of our research objectives.

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
BS in Electrical Engineering required
MS in Electrical Engineering preferred
MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 2 years experience in operation, design or control of electromechanical systems required.
*Ability to design custom instrumentation and control systems for large electrical/mechanical components
*Working knowledge of Python, and C++ programming languages to interface instrumentation to our custom data acquisition and storage system.
*Ability to simulate electrical/mechanical systems using PSPICE and MATLAB
*Experience with motion control systems and variable frequency drives.
*Design and implement PLC-based control systems (used for distributed control over a DH-485 network for large motors, high-power RF generators and distributed experimental control). Ability to work with RSLogix software
*Identify complex electromechanical problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
