NMS is seeking a Post-Doctoral Toxicologist for our Willow Grove, PA location
This position is designed to allow the training of a recently graduated postdoctoral student, and provide them with a structured training environment that would qualify them to perform the duties similar to that of an entry level Forensic Toxicologist. The training period is dependent on prior qualifications and experience of the candidate.
PhD in an appropriate scientific discipline - Toxicology or Pharmacology preferred
Completion of at least 25 semester hours in chemistry including 1 or more courses in analytical chemistry and instrumentation (includes undergraduate and graduate work)
Training will be conducted so that expertise is obtained in four key areas:
Data and Litigation Package review
Responding to toxicology questions from the laboratory, Client Support Services, and NMS Clients
Review and signing out of cases
Case interpretation (Human Performance Impairment, Drug-Facilitated Crime, and Postmortem cases)
Post-Doctoral Toxicologist Major Duties & Responsibilities
The general structure of the training will consist of:
General orientation; Review of SOPs; Safety; Quality Assurance; IT Resources; Sales and Marketing
Rotation through all analytical departments including Specimen Processing; includes observation and experience in department operations, procedures and documentation, review of departmental methods, and exception handling
Assisting laboratory staff in improving and developing/validating methods
Other duties as assigned
Forensic toxicology case co-review including review of analytical results in regards to correctness, appropriateness and specific case-related issues
Answering toxicology-related questions for laboratory staff, Client Support Services, and NMS clients
Courtroom Preparation: Court monitoring and Moot Court
Participation in case conferences
Classroom Toxicology: Intramural-Seminars/Lectures; Extramural: Professional meeting attendance
Performing toxicology-related laboratory research
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of analytical procedures including a basic understanding of analytical terminology, methods and theory, and methods of data interpretation
Working knowledge of pharmacology/toxicology
Strong communication skills - both verbal and written
Ability to communicate and coordinate closely and effectively with: toxicologists, client services personnel, laboratorians, and clients (including physicians, lawyers, and client service reps from external organizations)
Comprehends regulations and SOP’s and applies them to work operations
Define and resolve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to talk, hear, stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to manipulate instrument/equipment controls, computer keyboard, objects, tools or controls.
Requires moving from one work location to another to sit and stand, sometimes for extended periods of time.
Specific vision abilities (with correction) include color, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to travel as needed.
